A workspace for designers to sell their work

A designer workspace is usually Figma plus Drive plus an invoice. Spike is not a drawing tool. It is the library beside the drawing tool: folders you still own, a preview the client can open without a seat, and checkout on that URL when the work is for sale.

A workspace for designers to sell their work has to do three quiet jobs: keep the files, let someone see a safe preview, and collect money without a second product. Drive does the first. A PDF does the second. An invoice does the third. Spike puts them on the folder you already exported.

Designers on Spike treat each pack as a folder in a library: brand kit, type specimen, icon set, pitch export. The canvas stays in Figma. The sale is a URL. Share design files and get paid is the client send. This page is the workspace idea: many folders, some free, some priced, all still yours.

Each card is a folder in the library. Price the one that is for sale. The others can stay private.

Workbench vs storefront

Figma, Illustrator, and a shared Drive are the workbench. Clients with comments belong there only if they already live in that tool. Most clients want a page. A Spike folder is that page. You export finals out of the workbench when the job is done. You do not give them the working file tree.

How to lay out the library

  • One folder per client job. Password the share.
  • One folder per product you sell more than once: mockups, logos, templates.
  • A sample in the unpaid view. Source files behind pay.
  • A license PDF in the pack so they still have the terms in a year.

Selling from the workspace

  1. Export, do not share the canvas

Outlined files, licensed fonts only if you may pass them, exports at the sizes you promised.

  2. Preview that cannot replace the pack

Flattened mockup, marked PDF, or a logo on a fake bus. Watermark or censor if a screenshot would be enough.

  3. Price the folder and send one URL

How to sell a folder online is the generic switch. Minimum price is £1. Spike takes 5%, 1%, or 0% from the payout. Stripe's card fee still applies.

Jobs, products, and a public index

A one-off brand job wants a password. A mockup you sell fifty times wants a public sample and a price. Spike can do both from the same account. You can also put products on a storefront if you want a public index. That is still your page, not a marketplace catalogue. Sell mockups and sell logo files are the product-shaped versions.

The workspace is the library. The shop is a switch on a folder.

Revisions belong in the same folder. Replace the file. The URL does not change. Say in the booking whether a round is included before you unlock the pack. Night sends to a printer in another city are the same URL, not a new transfer.

Templates, ebooks, and PDFs that are not "design source" still fit this workspace. Selling PDFs, ebooks, and templates is that catalogue. Use this article when the craft is visual and the pack is files you already made.

Questions

Good to know

No. Design where you design. Spike stores the export, shows a preview, and can take payment. It is the hand-off and the shop, not the canvas.
