MEGA says transfer quota exceeded when the download, or the stream, has used up the allowance on that connection. In 2026 the screen is still a pause, not a missing file. MEGA's help centre says the free limit is the data downloaded from your IP address over the past six hours. It changes with country, time of day, and how busy their network is. They are explicit that there is no fixed download size.

Spike does not reset a MEGA clock. It is a different door. You upload the pack you already have. They open a page and take the original. No MEGA account. No shared IP allowance. Free Spike shares last three days, so a file they must still open on Monday belongs on Pro or Business. Keep MEGA if it is your own archive and you are happy to wait.

The link is alive. The allowance for that IP is not. A timer is not a delivery.

What the quota screen actually means

The file is still on MEGA. The pipe in front of it is full for that address. MEGA says transfers resume on their own when the over-quota window clears. You do not repair it by refreshing, by making a second MEGA account on the same wifi, or by telling a client to try again in a cafe. A household, a studio, or a mobile carrier can already have spent the six hours before your client clicked.

  • Free accounts and logged-out visitors are limited by IP, over the last six hours.
  • Paid plans are limited by the logged-in account, not that IP.
  • Uploading spends storage, not transfer quota. The send can succeed and the fetch can still die.
  • Streaming counts. A preview that plays inside MEGA is not free of the meter.

A Pro link can still stop a stranger

Paying MEGA moves the meter onto your account. MEGA also lets that account lend a slice of quota to people who are not paid, when they download links you made. Their help centre says that share is 25% by default, and you can change it. A busy folder, a class, or a public post can eat the slice. The client then sees the same kind of stop, on a link you thought was safe because you pay. That is still a quota. It is not a page.

Several people on one network share one free allowance. The last click is the one that sees the quota.

Waiting is MEGA's answer. It is a poor client answer.

MEGA says you can wait for the six-hour window to move, or you can upgrade. Both are fair if you are fetching your own archive. Neither is fair if a couple, an editor, or a buyer is staring at a half-finished bar. They did not choose your host. They chose the file. How to share files with clients.

Match the host to the person who has to finish the download.

Send the pack past the quota screen

  1. Download it yourself while you still can

    If your IP is already over quota, wait or use the account that holds the file. Do not send them the same MEGA URL.

  2. Put that copy in one folder

    The cut, the ZIP, the stills. A short clip on the page if they only need to confirm picture.

  3. Copy a link that is not a MEGA allowance

    Password it for a named person. Free Spike shares last three days. Pro or Business if they will ask again.

  4. Reply with the new URL

    Tell them the MEGA link hit a quota and this page is the file. They should not install a workaround.

When the quota link was also the product

A public MEGA folder in a caption is a leak with a traffic jam. People who get through take the master. People who do not get a timer. If they should pay, price the folder. Stripe, in GBP, minimum £1. Fees 5% on Free, 1% on Pro, 0% on Business, from the payout, plus Stripe's card fee. Charge for a download link. Spike does not take a MEGA account as checkout.

They can look without spending a MEGA allowance. The original waits until you meant them to take it.

When to stay on MEGA anyway

  • The files are your archive, and only you download them.
  • You already pay, the quota is on your account, and you are under it.
  • The other person can wait six hours and does not mind.

Dual-run is fine. MEGA for a private stash. A folder for the URL a client can finish tonight. A Dropbox door that already died is a different screen. Dropbox says this link is expired. A WeTransfer that closed is another. This transfer has expired. A video that never left WhatsApp is the phone version. WhatsApp says this video is too large.

The quota is a crowd on a pipe. The file was never the problem.

If you still have the pack, put it on a page and send that URL. What Spike is is a door that does not ask them to wait out someone else's traffic.
