Dropbox says this link is expired in 2026

People search Dropbox this link is expired when the shared URL is already a dead page. Dropbox's help centre says that sentence appears after an expiration date. The recipient cannot extend it. The files, if you still have them, need a new door.

Dropbox says this link is expired when a shared URL hits a date the sender set and the visitor did not see. Dropbox's help centre is plain. On Professional, Essentials, Standard, Advanced, Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise, you can put an expiration on a link. It ends at 11:59 pm on that day, in your time zone. The other person gets an error, not a countdown.

Spike does not repair that Dropbox page. It is a different door for the pack you still have. They open a page. Optional password. Optional checkout. Free Spike shares also last three days, so a client who opens email next week belongs on Pro or Business. Keep Dropbox when the job is the team disk, not the hand-off.

The link had a midnight. The client had a Monday. Dropbox did not show them the clock.

What This link is expired actually means

It is not a corrupt file. Dropbox disabled that URL. Their help says people see "This link is expired." Refreshing does not raise it. Signing into the wrong Dropbox account does not raise it either, if the failure really is the date. Dropbox vs Spike is the pair. This page is the dead button.

  • The owner picks the day. Recipients do not see it on the link page.
  • The cut-off is 11:59 pm in the sender's time zone, not the client's.
  • A deleted file, an unshared folder, or a closed account can also kill a URL. That is not the same sentence.
  • The visitor cannot edit the setting.

Only the owner can open it again

Dropbox's help says a stopped link can be turned back on by editing the expiration date. The same help, in the visitor section, says that after the date you create a new link and share that. Both are owner jobs. If you received the URL, you wait. If you sent it, do not assume the old email updated itself. Tell them which door works now.

Same email. New page. They fetch the pack without a Dropbox login or a revived timer.

Anyone with the link is the other mistake

The reflex is to remove the expiry and leave the folder open. That fixes the screen and often publishes the tree: last year's jobs, a second client's stills, a contract next to the JPEGs. Dropbox is a strong sync disk for a team that already lives there. It is a poor client gallery when the share is the whole drive. Put the named pack on its own page. How to share files with clients. Password protect a file share if the thread will be forwarded.

JobBest whenSkip when
Dropbox syncThe studio already works in that treeA couple should browse your whole disk
Dropbox expiryA paid plan and a date you meantThey must still open it next month
WeTransferA one-night hopThe free send already died
Spike folderOne pack, a preview, maybe a priceThe team must comment in the same files

Match the disk to the door. A revived Dropbox link is not a library.

Replace the dead Dropbox link

  1. Use the files you still have

The expired page does not contain a secret copy for the client. Upload from your disk.

  2. One folder for that delivery

Not the studio root. Name the files. A short clip or a treated still if looking would be taking.

  3. Copy a link that matches the clock

Free Spike shares last three days. Pro or Business if the email should still work next week.

  4. Reply on the same thread

Say the Dropbox URL is expired and this page is the pack. Do not attach the ZIP.

They look on the page. The Dropbox tree stays in the studio. The master is the download.

When the expired link was also unpaid

A Dropbox URL plus a separate invoice is how people receive the files and delay the card. If they still owe you, price the folder. Stripe, in GBP, minimum £1. Get paid before sending files. Spike does not take PayPal. Keep Dropbox, and keep that wallet, when the job really is a team folder and a bill somewhere else.

When to stay on Dropbox anyway

  • Several of you must edit the same working files.
  • The link was meant to die, and it did, on a draft.
  • You will edit the expiry or send a new Dropbox link today, and that is enough.

Dual-run is the honest split. Dropbox inside the studio. A folder for the URL a client can open without a seat. A WeTransfer that then says the transfer expired is the pipe version of this screen. WeTransfer link expired. A Drive that says You need access is the permission version. Google Drive You need access.

Dropbox expired the link on time. The client still needed the files.

Dropbox says this link is expired in 2026 because a paid share can be given a midnight. The recipient cannot move that midnight. Do not fix it by publishing the studio disk. If you still have the pack, put it on a page and reply with that URL. What Spike is is the door that does not ask them for a Dropbox account.

Questions

Good to know

Dropbox's help centre says paid plans can put an expiration date on a shared link. The link stops at 11:59 pm on the day you chose, in your time zone. After that, visitors see "This link is expired." They never saw the date on the page.
