Import from WeTransfer, Google Drive, and Dropbox in 2026

People paste a WeTransfer, a Google Drive, or a Dropbox link because the files already live somewhere else. Import pulls a public link into a Spike folder. It does not log into their account, and it does not keep a live sync.

Import from WeTransfer, Google Drive, and Dropbox in 2026 is a paste box, not a new account on each of those sites. You already have the URL. Spike reads a public link, downloads the file, and stores it in your folder. The client does not need a Google login, a Dropbox seat, or a transfer that is still inside its timer.

Spike does not replace those disks. Drive stays the workbench. Dropbox stays the team tree. WeTransfer stays a one-shot send. Import is how a pack that already exists becomes a page you can leave up, preview, password, or sell.

The old link is the source. The folder is the copy. They are not the same door.

Three links, three different jobs

JobBest whenSkip when
WeTransferA public transfer that is still upIt needs a password, or it already expired
Google Drive fileAnyone with the link can open itIt is Restricted and they must request access
Google Drive folderYou connect Google and choose where the files goYou wanted a live two-way sync
Dropbox fileA public file linkA private folder the client was never meant to browse

Paste the kind of link the host will actually give you.

WeTransfer arrives as one zip

Paste a we.tl short link or a wetransfer.com download link. Spike opens the transfer and saves it as one zip in your folder. The hint on the import control is plain: public transfers only. If WeTransfer asks for a password, Spike stops. If the transfer is gone, Spike stops. Do not refresh a dead page and expect a file. WeTransfer says this transfer has expired.

  • Public and still online: it can come in.
  • Password on the transfer: it cannot.
  • Expired or deleted: it cannot.
  • The result is a zip, not a live WeTransfer account inside Spike.
A public transfer becomes a zip in your library. The timer on WeTransfer no longer owns the copy.

Google Drive: a file, a Doc, or a folder

A Drive file link works when anyone with the link can open it. If Spike only gets a sign-in page, the file is not public. Set that sharing, then paste again. Google Drive You need access is the screen your client hits. Import is how you stop handing them that screen.

A Docs link exports as a PDF. A Sheet exports as Excel. Slides export as PowerPoint. You are not importing the live document with comments. You are importing a file. A folder link is different: Spike asks you to connect Google Drive, then you can put those files into the folder you already have open, or keep them as their own folder. That connection is for the import. It is not a standing sync.

Dropbox is a public file link

Paste a dropbox.com file link. Spike requests the download. If Dropbox will not hand over the file, set the link to anyone with the link and try again. A private tree, a team folder, and a sync client are still Dropbox's job. Dropbox says this link is expired if the share already died. Import cannot revive a link the owner turned off.

An expired share cannot be imported. A public one can, and then the copy is yours.

Bring a link in

  1. Copy a public link

WeTransfer download, Drive file or folder, or a Dropbox file. Not a password page.

  2. Paste it into Import from

Pick the host. Drive folders ask you to connect Google before the files list.

  3. Wait for the copy

Large files upload in parts. They count against your storage. Free is 2 GB. Pro is 500 GB. Business goes up to 10 TB.

  4. Send your folder, not their link

The imported files are in Spike. Preview, password, or price that folder. Do not forward the old URL.

The copy uses your plan

Import is not a free pipe around your storage. If the download would pass the room you have left, it stops. Pro is £8 a month. Selling, if you turn it on after the files are in, is a separate switch: GBP, minimum £1, selling fee 5% on Free and 1% on Pro and Business, plus Stripe. How to sell a folder online.

When not to import

  • You and they must keep editing the same Doc or Sheet.
  • The transfer is passworded or already expired.
  • The Dropbox or Drive link is private and should stay that way.
  • You only needed them to download tonight, and the original link still works.

Paste a public link. Keep a folder. Leave their account where it is.

Import from WeTransfer, Google Drive, and Dropbox in 2026 copies a public link into Spike. It will not open a password, an expired transfer, or a private Drive. After the files are in, send your page. What Spike is is that copy, not a second login to their disk.
