How to sell digital files on Discord in 2026
Discord will hold the community. It should not hold the master. Selling files in 2026 is a channel that points at a Spike folder, so roles, drops, and commissions do not live forever in the message history.
Servers accumulate files like sediment. A drop from 2024 is still sitting in #releases, downloadable by every future join. That is generous. It is also how you stop being able to sell the pack, and how a leaving mod still has the stash.
Spike keeps Discord as talk and Spike as stock. Announce in the channel. Link the folder. Treat the unpaid view so lurkers can see what the drop is. Checkout or a password is what lets them take it. You can shut the door without deleting two years of chat.
Why a channel is not stock
- Message history is a public archive for anyone who ever had access.
- Bots that mirror channels copy your product.
- File-size theatre (Nitro, boosts) is still not a shop.
- Kicking someone does not unsay an attachment.
Server jobs that need a folder
A member drop
Post a sample in the channel if you want hype. The pack lives on Spike. How creators sell exclusive drops is the shape. Discord is the room that already cares.
Asset and game packs
How 3D artists sell and deliver asset packs belongs here. Preview a still. Unlock the mesh. Do not put a 4 GB source in #assets.
A commission thread
Keep sketches in the thread if you must. Finals go to a passworded folder for that buyer. Send proofs and get paid if they still owe you.
Announce in the channel, deliver on Spike
A still, a clip, a changelog. Then a URL. Pin the URL, not the zip.
Split public hype from the door
Public preview can be open. The master is priced or passworded. Lurkers should not complete the drop.
Retire drops by turning the share off
The chat can stay. The stock can go. Buyers who paid still have their unlock on that URL if you leave paid access on.
Spike takes 5% on Free, 1% on Pro, 0% on Business, from the payout. Stripe's card fee still applies. A server that runs for years needs Pro or Business links. Free shares last three days. Free-plan files follow 30-day retention. Neither matches a Discord that never sleeps.
Who this is for
Game-asset sellers. Music servers. Creators with a patron chat. Musicians dropping kits. Anyone who has ever uploaded "final_final.zip" to a channel and regretted it.
If the server is the campfire, the files should not be the firewood you left in the rain.
Telegram channels have the same sediment problem. Sell on Telegram is that cousin. If the community also lives on Patreon, deliver the pack on Spike and keep the pledge where it belongs.
Questions
Good to know
Roles are a room. They are not a receipt, a preview rule, or a re-download page. Keep roles for chat. Deliver the pack on Spike. If they lose the role, you can still honour a purchase on the folder URL.
