How architects deliver drawings and project files to clients in 2026

Practices still email a 200 MB PDF, then a WeTransfer of the model, then a second set when the contractor is new. Drawing delivery in 2026 is one URL: a sheet they can judge, a price if they owe you, and the pack the site can open in month six.

How architects deliver drawings to clients is still, in too many practices, a chain of emails and a transfer that dies before the contractor is appointed. Each hop is a place a set goes stale. Architect file delivery should be one door they already have open.

This is the year of jobs: a planning pack, a tender set, a contractor issue, an as-built drop. Spike can be that URL. It does not replace your CAD. It is the door beside the model.

A sheet they can judge. The model stays rolled until approval or payment.

Why drawing sets still wander

  • A full-resolution sheet in email is already the issue.
  • A new contractor asks in month six. The transfer is gone.
  • A shared drive shows every revision next to the issued set.
  • Finance still owes a fee, and the model already left the building.

How this looks on a year of jobs

Planning pack

A treated PDF in the unpaid view. Not every working file. Password the door. If the client still owes for this stage, put the price on that URL. Get paid before sending files.

Tender set

One folder per issue. Name it for humans. A contents sheet at the top. If two contractors should not see each other's Q+A, use two doors. Replace a revised sheet in place. Tell them the URL did not change.

Contractor issue

The site will ask twice. A transfer dies. Leave the link up on Pro or Business. Free shares last three days, which is not a tender clock. Password it. Rotate the passphrase when the set of people changes.

As-built

A dated pack. Put the year in the folder name. The client can fetch it after practical completion without you hunting a ZIP from last spring.

Plan, elevation, spec. The set unlocks together. The workbench stays in the office.

  1. Put this issue in one folder

Sheets, specs, the model you mean to issue. A contents note. Nothing from the last stage unless you intend it.

  2. Decide the unpaid view

A sheet they can judge. Not the full BIM. Password the door.

  3. Price it if they still owe you

The practice payment link is the folder. When checkout completes, the same URL is the download.

Spike takes 5% on Free, 1% on Pro, 0% on Business, from the payout, when you price the folder. Sharing can stay free when the fee already cleared. Free-plan files follow 30-day retention. A live job belongs on a paid plan.

If they can read the sheet, they should be able to take the set without joining your project drive.
