How to price digital downloads without charging too low
How to price digital downloads is a job question before it is a number. A wedding set is not a planner PDF. An exclusive beat is not a free unlock. Spike's floor is £1 for a real charge. Charging too low usually means you priced a named pack like a mall printable.
How to price digital downloads gets searched by people who know they are cheap and do not know which job they priced. A £3 gallery of 400 stills is not generous. It is a signal that looking should have been free and the masters should have been the invoice. A £200 planner PDF no one asked for is the other error. The number has to match the leftover job.
On Spike the floor is £1 for a charge. Entire folder or individual files. Default per-file price plus overrides. We will not invent a "charge $47" rule. We will tell you when a price is the wrong room.
What charging too low usually means
- You priced a booked shoot like a printable stranger might bounce off.
- The unpaid view is already the master, so the till is a tip jar.
- Per-file prices are so low they will never tick three, they will ask for the Drive.
- You copied a mall listing instead of the invoice you already send.
Price the job, not the file type
A client gallery: the remaining balance, or the set they booked. A preset they saw on YouTube: enough that the sample is not the product, not so high they steal a screenshot and guess. A beat: the lease you actually grant. A course ZIP: the workshop they sat through, not a campus tuition. 20 digital products is the shelf. This page is the till.
Match the number to the room. A mall printable and a named pack do not share a price.
Whole folder vs per file
If they need every file, one price. If they shop three portraits, a default per file and a higher override on the hero stills. Switching later does not take away a previous whole-folder purchase. Minimum £1 either way.
What comes off the number you type
Buyers pay the GBP price. Spike takes 5% on Free, 1% on Pro, 0% on Business, from the payout. Stripe's card fee still applies. Do not raise the sticker to "cover Spike" as a surprise at checkout. There is no surcharge on their total.
Write the job in one line
"Remaining gallery fee." "LUT from the tutorial." "Personal lease, this WAV." If you cannot, you are not ready to type a number.
Treat the unpaid view first
A price on a master they can already take is a hope, not a till.
Pick Entire folder or Individual files
Then the default, then overrides. Save. Send the URL.
The license is part of the price
Personal use, commercial, exclusive, editorial: those are different products even when the WAV is the same. Spike can attach terms and require accept-before-download. If the sticker says exclusive and the PDF says personal, you taught them to ignore you. Create a digital product from files is where the license file belongs in the pack.
PLR and white-label packs have their own trap: you priced original work like a commodity, or a commodity like original work. PLR and white-label is that fork.
Can I raise the price later?
Yes. Change the number on the folder. People who already paid keep what they bought. Do not bait a launch at £1 and swap the pack for a different job under the same name. Version in place for a broken file. Sell v2 when the look changes.
Too low is usually the wrong job wearing a small number.
How to price digital downloads is matching the till to the pack. Floor £1. Mode on the folder. Rights in the license. What Spike is is the door. The number is still yours.
